Boyd Gaming Responds to Maui Fires with $100K Donation to Relief Efforts
8/18/2023
As relief efforts are underway following catastrophic
wildfires on the island of Maui, Boyd Gaming has stepped up to aid in those
efforts with a donation of $100,000 to the American Red Cross.
Along with Vacations Hawaii and The California Hotel & Casino, Boyd Gaming made the donation to help provide shelter, food and health services to the many Maui residents affected by the wildfires.
The connection between Hawai’i and Boyd Gaming goes back to the late 1930s, when our co-founder Sam Boyd worked in the state, and Chairman Emeritus Bill Boyd lived there as a child. The Boyds put those connections to good use when they opened the California Hotel & Casino in 1975, making the Cal Hawaii’s “home away from home.” Over the following 48 years, the Cal’s and Boyd’s relationship with Hawai’I grew stronger than ever, as the property helped Las Vegas earn the title of “Ninth Island” by attracting thousands of Hawaiians to visit and live in southern Nevada.
Looking back, Bill Boyd often says that without Hawai’I,
there is no California – and no Boyd Gaming.
Our Company is deeply grateful for our Ohana in Hawai’i, and our hearts
and our prayers are with them in their time of need.
